What We Do
Patsy Petrie – Headteacher
After qualifying at Durham University as a science specialist in 2002, I took up my first teaching post at a large Primary school in Middlesbrough.
Before taking on the role of Headteacher in 2015, I had a number of key responsibilities as part of the school’s SLT and have worked with a number of teachers and leaders within Redcar and Cleveland LA to support in developing their practice. My leadership responsibilities have included: KS2 lead, Assessment coordinator, maths subject lead, ‘Achievement for All’ lead teacher, provision for G&T pupils and curriculum development.
Areas of Expertise
- Raising standards and leadership in Key Stage 2
- Curriculum Development
- Attainment in maths
- Monitoring to bring about rapid improvement
Examples of Outreach work undertaken and Impact
In my role as lead teacher for Achievement for All, I worked with a number of senior leaders and class teachers across the local authority to improve provision for the most vulnerable and least able pupils. The work carried out within my school and across the wider cluster meant that we achieved ’Lead School Status’, having a significant impact on the progress and attainment of our most vulnerable learners.
From 2009-2015, I was an ‘Outstanding Maths Practitioner’ for the local authority hosting NQTs and subject leaders to observe best practice and to support in developing them in their roles. I have also been part of the NQT CPD programme, delivering training on mathematics and Managing Teaching Assistants.
As part of the Aspire Learning Partnership in Redcar and Cleveland, I have lead Peer Reviews and carried out Learning Walks across our partner schools as part of the Trust’s school to school support programme. More recently, I have begun working with the Esk Valley Alliance, leading a training peer review day and becoming a Consultant Headteacher.
