Mastery in Maths

  • We are beginning to explore mastery in maths in conjunction with our link to Yorkshire Ridings Maths Hub. We are approaching this in a variety of ways in our different schools and are happy to share our practice with those who are interested. One of our schools is trialling Maths No Problem textbooks from September throughout the school (in mixed age classes) as one way of tackling mastery in maths. We are working in conjunction with researchers at York University to assess the impact of this and also to consider how to track children's progress in mastery of mathematics. Other schools are Castleton and Glaisdale who are training staff to understand more about mastery in general and are trialling some of the maths text books. People are welcome to come and view these in action from September as we move forward with the new curriculum.

  • We can confirm that as an official partner of the Yorkshire Ridings Maths hub we have been given joint responsibility for Subject Knowledge Enhancement with Wolds TSA. We are currently in the planning phase of this provision ready for implementation from September. If you have any staff that could benefit from Subject Knowledge Enhancement in mathematics (either early years, primary or secondary level) please contact us and we will be able to inform you of the CPD available as soon as it is confirmed.
